Electrocardiogram Technicians operate and monitor EKGs for patients during diagnostics and surgery

EKG/ECG

EKG / Rhythm Analysis Technician

What is an EKG Technician? What is a Rhythm Analysis Technician?

Electrocardiograph Technician is abbreviated as EKG or ECG Techs. EKG Techs operate and monitor electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment for patients during diagnostic tests and surgical procedures. They report the tracings to physicians who make diagnostic decisions.

Telemetry Technicians not only know how to perform an EKG they also know how to analyze the rhythms generated by the heart.

By teaching students the skills to apply the EKG and read the rhythms they become more marketable and have more options for employment.

Why would someone choose EKG/Rhythm Analysis Technician as a career path?

This excellent article provides 19 Reason for becoming an EKG Technician.

What is the outlook for an EKG / Rhythm Analysis Technician?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there is a 22% job growth for Technician with the average salary being above $54,000.

What does the program entail?

Medright Inc.'s EKG / Rhythm Analysis Technician program teaches students about the cardiovascular system, focusing on the electroconduction of the heart tissue. Using a clear, yet thorough, approach that combines lecture and hands-on experience, students learn about the equipment used to perform EKG and how to read an EKG strip. Each lecture will build on the prior presentation. By the end of the program, students will be proficient at applying the electrodes for both 3- and 12-lead EKGs and to interpret results.

Hands-on experience:

After successfully completing the 8-week course students will attend a week-long Clinical Rotation at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Students will work along side of employees applying the 12 lead EGK to patients and interpreting the EKG tracings.

Who should take this course?

Students with a curiosity about the heart, those seeking to advance their skill set in the medical field thereby becoming much more marketable and valued, those wanting to become EKG / Rhythm Analysis Technician.

As with all Medright, Inc. programs, this course also includes certification in BLS through the American Heart Association, the hospital-preferred organization for CPR training.

Successful students are eligible for National Certification examinations through Cardiovascular Credentialing International, (CCI) for

Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT)  and the Cardiac Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT).

EKG/ECG

Have you ever seen a telemetry machine and wondered what the lines mean?

This class will teach you how to read those lines.

Find out more

An EKG/ECG Techincian operates the electrocardiograph machine by applying the elctrodes to the chest of the individual having the test done.

Electrodes are adhesives tabs strategically placed on the patient that are attached to cables connected to the electrocardiograph.

The electrodes pick up the electical activity of the heart. This activity is transmitted to the electocardiograph resulting in electrocardiogram, a series of lines on a screen or paper.
